Labster partners with California Community Colleges to make virtual science labs available for 2.1 million students

Faculty and students at over 100 colleges in California will receive unlimited online access to Labster’s virtual lab simulations through the end of the year

Boston – April 14, 2020 – Labster, the award-winning producer of virtual laboratory simulations, today announced a partnership with the California Community Colleges to immediately provide over 2.1 million students with access to more than 130 virtual laboratory simulations in biology, chemistry, physics, and general sciences.

In response to the move to online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office has sponsored the immediate rollout of Labster’s virtual science labs to students at over 100 community colleges across the state. The agreement provides full access to science education simulations through the end of the year.

Labster’s fully interactive virtual simulations have been designed to stimulate students’ natural curiosity and highlight the connection between science and the real world. Students perform realistic experiments, learn key science concepts, and practice their skills in a risk-free learning environment. Numerous research studies show that Labster simulations significantly improve learning outcomes and knowledge retention while simultaneously increasing student engagement and participation in STEM curricula.

“Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the California Community Colleges sought to procure an online virtual platform that integrates with the common Learning Management System and allows colleges to deliver STEM course instruction to students.” Said Paul Feist, the Vice Chancellor of Communications and Marketing for the CCC. “Our goal is to allow students to gain access to realistic labs that enable them to perform experiments and achieve desired learning outcomes. The tool is now available to all 115 colleges.”

“Labster is very proud to be partnering with the Chancellor’s office to make virtual lab learning available to students throughout the California community college system. This agreement will provide instructors with a new tool they can use to ensure interactive STEM learning continues in these difficult times,” said Michael Bodekaer, Labster CEO and co-founder. “At Labster, our goal is to empower the next generation of scientists, and we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure students keep getting the hands-on education they need.”

Labster is working to help educators integrate virtual labs into their courses and make the transition into teaching online. Instructors will have access to Labster’s Canvas integration options, course maps to help choose the best simulations, and various teacher training resources. More than 80% of colleges in the California Community Colleges have already contacted Labster to begin setting up access for their students. Labster simulations will be primarily supporting courses in biology, chemistry, and physics.
