Try Our New Accessible Science Simulation (It's Free!)

It’s easy to teach students with physical impairments, diverse backgrounds and preferences to learn in non-English languages with our new, fully accessible and inclusive virtual labs. To try one for free – and share it with your students – fill out the form below. This trial ends soon!

Three benefits of teaching with accessible & inclusive virtual labs:

You can support all your students with Labster’s virtual labs and curriculum resources. As your partner in virtual science education, we’re proud to have been named a leader in accessible virtual science labs by a third party evaluator.

1. Achieve ADA compliance easily

It’s no longer adequate to only make your physical spaces accessible – digital learning tools must also be ADA compliant. Non-compliance can exclude students who rely on accommodations and can result in significant fines. All of Labster’s new science simulations are fully accessible for all learners, comprising more than half of our catalog of virtual labs. We are committed to making our entire catalog of science simulations accessible to the WCAG 2.0 Level AA standard.

Universal Access

2. Increase enrollment in gateway courses

Both majors and non-majors can be successful with Labster because no prior knowledge or experience is required. You can easily assign Labster in place of face-to-face labs for health science majors or students wo want to fulfill their general education requirements.

“I think it’s safe to say students who are majors need hands on experience. You have to touch a pipette, you have to load a gel, extract DNA. But does a non major student have to hold a pipette? I would argue no. I would much sooner have them understand at a deeper level the competencies behind why science works,"

3. Foster classroom diversity

By teaching modules that support students who speak non-English languages or have physical impairments, you increase classroom diversity, enhancing peer-to-peer learning opportunities. Your discussions will be richer and more robust, and reduced barriers to entry in the sciences also increases the potential pool of new majors.

“When we designed this course we were very deliberate about saying ‘we want to make this lab accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world’. Enrollment increased 6% at a time when overall university enrollment declined, and several students said ‘I’m telling all my friends to take this course!’”

How Labster makes science education more accessible

Meet all learners where they are

Your students' benefits:

Overcoming physical limitations

Labster accommodates students with visual and hearing impairments. In accessibility mode:

  • color is not used as a sole means of instruction in images or during quizzes
  • dialogue is captioned and all sounds have a text supplement
  • students can play simulations using only the keyboard
  • students can use a screen-reader with alternative text for images, including extra descriptions of laboratory equipment, animations, and environmental scenery

Supporting speakers of multiple languages

Labster’s virtual labs use accurate scientific terminology to present advanced scientific concepts, procedures, and equipment. Your students can choose the language in which they learn best in our newest labs. Our virtual lab simulations are currently available in:

  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Spanish
  • English

Representation of all learners

Representation matters. Labster is committed to creating characters in our simulations who look like your students. In fact, we randomly generate the skin tone of each player’s avatar. In addition to providing modern and relevant storylines, we strive to present an inclusive world as it relates to gender, sexuality, ethnic, racial and cultural diversity within the STEM fields.
