Felesha Jack always had an innate curiosity about life sciences. She did well in high school and wanted to follow that path. A dedicated biology student at the University of the Southern Caribbean, she has utilized Labster to support her academic journey since the start of her studies, using dozens of different virtual labs. Her major focuses on biomedical sciences and her minor is in chemistry.
Felesha was first introduced to Labster through a friend, sparking excitement about the platform’s potential when she began her own courses.
She plans to work in biomedical research after graduation, and she believes that the hands-on experience provided by Labster will give her an edge when she applies to competitive internships, jobs, or graduate programs.
User-friendly experience
“My first impression of Labster was that I really liked the simple user interface. It was easy to navigate and complete my work.”
Flexibility for a busy schedule
“I like that Labster is flexible. It fits my busy student schedule, so I don’t always have to be in the lab to get my work done. That’s a big plus for many students.”
Appreciation for the virtual lab assistant
“I really like Dr. One. They’re a great addition to the platform. They guide you through what's next and help you wherever you are in the lab.”
Favorite simulation: Biodiversity
“My favorite recent lab was a biodiversity simulation, where we tested what ecological factors might help organisms grow on an exoplanet. We had to do various tests, and it was really fun. The experience helped me understand ecosystems in a way I hadn’t before.”
Improving STEM grades
“My Labster grades are higher compared to traditional lab grades because it’s an interactive platform, and I usually work through it one-on-one. It reinforces concepts for me and boosts my grades.”
Visualizing complex concepts in chemistry
“For chemistry, Labster has helped me understand hybridization. It can be very difficult to visualize orbitals in class, but Labster shows how they merge to form hybrids, which really helped me. It’s a great platform for STEM students to visualize difficult concepts and build on that knowledge to understand more complex ideas.”
Boosting confidence and reducing anxiety
“When I was younger and less experienced, I was nervous about approaching my lecturers because I didn’t feel I knew enough. Labster has helped me prepare and strengthen my knowledge so I can approach them with confidence now. I also don’t need to meet with them as often because Labster helps reduce the anxiety I’d normally feel in labs and classrooms.”
Preparing for a career
“Labster helps with career prep by giving me exposure to what I might encounter in a future research lab.”
Great for non-STEM majors
“A lot of students who aren’t STEM majors shy away from science classes because they think they’re hard. Labster makes science fun by showing real-life applications of what’s being taught. It’s no longer just an abstract idea. I think it’s a great platform for both STEM and non-STEM majors.”
