Learn More About This Simulation

Chemical reaction equations are a powerful tool, but only if they're balanced! In this simulation, you will learn how to decipher chemical equations and practice balancing them. You will learn the difference between reactants and products and how the rule of mass conservation guides us on how to balance them. With mass conservation in mind, you will balance each equation to perfection so you can get to the launch room and fire a missile toward an incoming comet!

Visualize the rule of mass conservation

Mass conservation is at the core of chemical equation balancing. To help you visualize this principle, you will get three-dimensional molecules that you can place on a scale. Can you figure out how many molecules to put on each side of the scales to give the same number of atoms on both sides?

Balance the chemical reaction equations

With Labster's custom-made chemical equation balancer, you'll be balancing equations like a pro in no time! To balance your chemical equations, you must provide the correct coefficients, and the balancer will count the number of each element on the reactant and product sides for you. Additionally, with correct coefficients, the equation balancer can synthesize real substances from the reactants which you will use to solve problems ahead.

Save the base from an incoming threat!

With the impending doom of an approaching comet, you must launch a defense quickly! For each equation you balance correctly, you are one step closer to launching a comet-destroying missile. Can you get all those coefficients right before it's too late?

For Science Programs Providing a Learning Advantage

Professor Margaret Brady was able to enhance student learning with A&P virtual labs.
Margaret Brady
Associate Professor
North Dakota State College of Science

“They did the simulation at home, then completed the in-person lab within 30 minutes, no questions asked, and passed the quiz with flying colors.”

Lewis Mattin
PhD
Lecturer in Human Physiology
University of Westminster

"I saw some of the students who clearly didn’t necessarily like sitting there reading a book discover they could turn on Labster and keep up with the rest of the class because it spoke to them.

Melody McGill
Curriculum Coordinator
Modesto City Schools

"Having something that's engaging for the students gives teachers that opportunity to breathe and get excited again. Because they're seeing the kids light up, they're seeing the kids engage with content."

"The question always is, ‘Can we demonstrate that the students are meeting course outcomes?’ Check! We can do that.”

Dr. Melody Esfandiari
Chemistry Lecturer
San José State University

"We surveyed over 400 students. More than 90% thought Labster was easy to navigate, and that it was fun, but more importantly, most of them felt confident that they could execute the labs in person. And that confidence is a big deal."

Mr stuart
Dr. Stuart Goodall
Lecturer
Northumbria University

“The Labster simulations get students to do things, and they're not just sitting there consuming a webinar where their mind can drift. They become an active participant in that learning experience.”
